Signature Coins COVID-19 Update

Posted by Patrick Moyer | Wednesday March 25th, 2020 | Topic: Company

How We’re Supporting Our Employees and Customers

In the wake of COVID-19, our goal here at Signature Coins has been to maintain a sense of normalcy for our employees and our customers.

With so much of the world shut down, the amount of traffic on our website and the demand for custom coins have dropped significantly. However, we’re committed to offering the same friendly and reliable service to anyone in need of custom coins.

We are still working heavily with first responders, medical professionals, and a variety of different agencies from local health departments to activated national guard units that are all involved in the relief effort. We are designing and manufacturing custom coins to recognize outstanding individual efforts, strengthen team bonds, and boost morale.

While traditional project inquiries have dipped, we’re doing everything we can to stay busy and keep our team employed.

The lull has also given us time to launch new features and site optimizations that we’d usually not have time for, including a variety of new payment options (PayPal, PayPal Credit, and more to come!). If you have any suggestions, we’d love to hear them!

We’re following all CDC/WHO guidelines to ensure the safety of our team and the safety of our customers, and taking precautions to ensure that the manufacturing and delivery process is as safe as possible.

Design & Customer Service

Most of our team is still working at our main office in Orlando, Florida. Luckily, no one has contracted or exhibited symptoms of coronavirus, and we continue to follow CDC/WHO recommendations to maintain the health of all of our employees.

For precautionary measures, arrangements have been made for several of our team members to work remotely, including all members of groups that the CDC and WHO have identified as “high-risk.” We've also cancelled all in-person meetings and prohibited employees from traveling to other departments and suites. Since our company only interacts with our customers online and by phone, we expect to continue operating as long as it is deemed safe by the CDC and our local authorities.

Manufacturing & Shipping

Our manufacturing facilities are fully operational after implementing COVID-19 precautionary measures in mid-February.

Challenge coins ship directly from our manufacturing facility overseas. At this time, we believe this to be the safest method, since the local governments have implemented extremely stringent standards for factory cleanliness and safety.

  • Since late February, all workers in the factory are gloved and wear masks when on-premises.
  • We take their temperature with touch-less infrared thermometers twice a day (before entering and before leaving premises).
  • Workers are issued new masks when they arrive in the morning and another after they take their lunch break.
  • We've established a quarantine room near the front of the property where they would wait for medical professionals if they had a temperature.
  • The factory is decontaminated nightly. Working surfaces and floors are cleaned with bleach.
  • We've been lucky in that no one at our factories has had a temperature, symptoms, or coronavirus diagnosis.

Additionally, our shipping partners (FedEx and UPS) are supplying surgical masks, hand sanitizers, and alcohol wipes to team members and vendors who come in contact with packages. Packages are wiped down before they get put on a plane.

At this point, we believe the biggest (although still likely small) risk comes from the individuals handling the package at the local UPS and FedEx distribution facilities and from the drivers delivering the packages.

Recent studies have shown that COVID-19 can survive up to 24 hours on cardboard surfaces. Shipping takes 24 to 48 hours, so anything from our factories would be safe in that case.

An additional level of precaution could be leaving all delivered packages for 24 hours because of the contact with the local delivery driver regardless of courier (UPS, Fedex, USPS, Amazon Prime, Shipt, Instacart, etc.).
