Going Above and Beyond to Make the Sale

Posted by Adrian Alexander | Wednesday August 14th, 2019 | Topic: Company

Out of the Ordinary Requests Are Our Business

When a customer contacted us asking that metal shavings from his factory be added to his challenge coins, we quickly assured him we could make that happen. When customers have asked us for coin plating and powder coatings we didn’t offer before, we’ve said yes and figured out ways to get them what they need. As a custom coin company, saying yes to our customers’ requests, no matter how extraordinary they may seem, is the name of the game.

Saying yes isn’t the only way our sales team goes above and beyond for our customers, though. Sometimes, saying yes creates more work than our production teams can handle on their own. When these situations present themselves, our sales team swoops in and takes production into their own hands to make sure the order ships on time.

Saying Yes, Then Finding the Solution

Having metal shards added to a coin might be a bit out of the ordinary, but plating coins and giving them the proper finish is something we do for every order; it shouldn’t be that complicated. But what happens when a customer asks for a finish we don’t offer?

A customer came to us with designs for a coin in honor of an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Suicide Prevention Hotline. It was an important cause, and a cool coin design, but one of their sticking points was that the coin needed to have a Cerakote finish.

Cerakote is a Polymer-Ceramic coating that can be applied to metals, plastics, polymers and wood. Because of its enhanced durability and corrosion resistance, Cerakote is a popular finish applied to firearms. The customer simply wanted the look and feel of the coins to be immediately recognizable to the people receiving them.

After multiple custom coin companies told the customer they couldn’t help him, we said yes and set to work finding someone to properly apply the Cerakote finish. Completing this process led to the coins changing hands more often than in typical orders. First the coins had to be created by our production team, then they had to be handed over to us so we could deliver them to Rampart Coatings to apply the Cerakote finishes.

Once the finish was applied, the coins came back to us and our sales team noticed that one feature of the coins, a small hole intended to contain a real grenade pin, was too small for its intended purpose. Instead of returning the coins to the production team to remedy the problem, our sales team stepped up, brought in a personal drill press, and expertly reworked the hole a little to make sure the specs were exactly right.

Bringing their own personal power tools in to the office in order to get a customer’s order exactly right is only one of the ways our sales team bends over backwards to accommodate your requests.

Defying Customs to Create Something Special

Metal shavings aren’t the only thing we’ve been asked to add to coins. A customer contacted us with a coin design that included a small recessed section intended to contain soil from a place that’s very special to them. Of course we said yes. They sent us the soil, we sent the designs to our production team with intentions for the soil to follow. There was only one small problem with that plan: Customs isn’t really a fan of shipping soil.

We shifted to Plan B and had our production facility create the coins and deliver them to our offices. At which point, our sales team took their time mixing the soil with epoxy and carefully adding the mixture to the proper spot on the coins. In the end, all 300 of the coins were completed to the customer’s specifications and shipped.

Saying yes to a customer’s request doesn’t automatically mean we’ll be able to meet that request through conventional means. More often than not, it does. Most of the time, what our customers request is something we’re more than capable of enacting through our production team and the standard means of coin production. However, every so often, a customer will come along who needs a little extra help to get their coins created and shipped properly. When that happens, rest assured that our sales team is more than ready to go above and beyond to get the results you desire.
