Nicknamed “The Natural State,” Arkansas is a southern state deeply immersed in art, history, and American culture. With 53,179 square miles of mountains, rivers, valleys, deltas, and lakes, the state is home to a vast plethora of natural beauty and wonder that has inspired generations of Arkansan locals with a distinctly Southern culture. Iconic American artists and writers including Johnny Cash, Maya Angelou, and the band Evanescence all incubated their careers and works in Arkansas. Between a rich history and a timeless natural beauty, Arkansas challenge coins have limitless sources of inspiration to honor their state pride.

At Signature Coins, we develop unique location-based challenge coins for clients flung all over the nation and abroad. Operating since 2000, we work with each client individually to create unique challenge coins honoring the character of our clients and often inspired by the pride they feel for their home and country. Challenge coins are one of the oldest traditions in our nation and challenge coin designs are as diverse as the people who commission them. As unique tokens of honor and pride, we try our utmost to capture the significant symbols and aspects of an organization through our well-crafted challenge coins.

We offer our services to military organizations, law enforcement, and government officials to clients located all over Arkansas. While working with clients, we take special care to learn the history and local cultures of each one whether they live near the foothills of the Ozarks or live within the Arkansas Delta. We take special care to learn about a client’s needs no matter where they come to us from.

Major cities that we offer our services to include:

  • Little Rock - Capital city of Arkansas and the most populous city. Little Rock is the state’s center of culture and home to several universities including two campuses for the University of Arkansas, the Philander Smith College, and the Arkansas Baptist College.

  • Fayetteville - Host to the main campus of the University of Arkansas and the first home of former Bill Clinton, Fayetteville is a thriving college town with many natural parks and trails.
  • Bentonville - Birthplace and headquarters of Walmart, the world’s largest retail store, the city is also well-known for its numerous bike trails.

Arkansas History and Symbols

Obtained as part of the massive land parcel gained from the Louisiana Purchase, Arkansas entered the Union in 1836 as the 25th state. Historically, Arkansas was a slave state whose economy depended on plantation agriculture and later joined the Confederacy during the Civil War. Even after the end of the Civil War, much of Arkansas history and public perception is colored by a history of racial conflict and tension from Jim Crowe Laws to the Little Rock Nine.

Today, Arkansas is a state with a modern economy playing host to some of the biggest American corporations and businesses. As a long-standing member of the “Bible Belt,” much of the state’s people are pious Christians, which is reflected in the state’s official seal. One of the most common elements of any location-based challenge coin is the official symbols and emblems of a location including Arkansas symbols such as:

  • The Seal of Arkansas - Depicting an image of an Angel of Mercy, the Sword of Justice, and the Goddess of Liberty over the backdrop of an American Bald Eagle.
  • The flag of Arkansas - Featuring a white diamond with a blue border studded with stars over a red backdrop and Arkansas printed in the center. The white stars doting the exterior of the diamond are meant to represent the state’s entry as the 25th state, while the blue star and white center is intended to pay homage to the Confederate flag.
  • Diamonds - Until recently, Arkansas was the only state in the U.S. with a diamond mine, and many emblems including the state’s quarter and flag include diamond shapes to represent this fact.
