Creepy Halloween Challenge Coins

Posted by Patrick Moyer | Wednesday October 31st, 2018 | Topic: Design

Happy Halloween from Signature Coins! In the spirit of All Hallows’ Eve, we decided to put together a list of our favorite spooky designs. We have made coins featuring everything from ghosts and ghouls to skeletons and demons. Some are fun and lighthearted while others are bone-chilling. Take a look for yourself!

#8 - 345th Air Force Training Squadron Bottle Opener Coin

Starting off this list, we have these bottle opener coins made for the 345th Air Force Training Squadron. The coins were awarded after completing Hazmat preparer courses. The green sections of each coin face are filled with glow in the dark enamel, adding to the ominous nuclear radiation symbol at the center of the design.

#7 - 1st Battalion 185th Aviation Brigade Coin

Holding this coin gives you an eerie sensation that makes the back of your neck prickle like there is something right behind you. The most prominent feature is, of course, the high-relief 3D grim reaper bowing low in front of his scythe as though in waiting to swoop down on his next victim. The emblem on the front is unique to the 185th Aviation Brigade of the United States Army. The second emblem on the back represents the 1st battalion of the 185th regiment.

#6 - Rosebud County Coroner’s Office Coin

Disney’s Haunted Mansion inspired the design of these hitchhiking ghosts, however, this coin is inherently more ominous because it was made for the Rosebud County Coroner’s office. When you realize this, the words “always room for one more” seem even more foreboding.

#5 - Brew City F.O.O.L.S Coin

At first glance, this coin looks pretty normal. Once you take a moment to look closer, that clown on the front of the coin is enough to leave a lasting impression. It brings to mind classic hair-raising stories like Poltergeist and Stephen King’s It

#4 - Montgomery Police Department K9 Unit Coin

The Montgomery Police Department wanted a challenge coin that truly captured the menacing presence of a police dog. The black and blue stripes (reminiscent of The Thin Blue Line Flag) on the skull look almost like war paint, and the dark eyes, sharp ears and massive teeth remind you of how terrifying a highly trained K9 unit can be. This dog looks like something out of a nightmare.

#3 - RECKLESS DECK - Diabolis Coin

Nothing says creepy quite like a demon. The Diabolis coin was actually voted to the top spot in our office as the coolest coins we have worked on. You really need to hold this coin to see the fine detail and incredible craftsmanship. It is truly unique, and the few we have in our office are often passed around from desk to desk.

#2 - 501st Legion Hitchhiking Coin

This coin is a lot less creepy, and a lot more fun than most of the coins on this list. At Signature Coins, we are delighted to work alongside the 501st, also known as Vader’s First, a fan based organization that takes part in fundraisers and charities all over the world. This coin is a crazy mashup of Star Wars, The Nightmare Before Christmas and the famous Haunted Mansion Ride’s hitchhiking ghosts! Pretty awesome, right?

#1 - New York State Police Major Crimes Coin

The inscription “Justice hunts the wicked as death hunts the dying,” sums up what being a homicide detective in New York is all about. Just as surely as death comes to the dying, so will justice be brought to the killers throughout the state. The skeleton smoking the cigar almost makes it look as if death itself is hunting those lawbreakers.

While these coins are all unique in their own way, this list alone does not do justice in representing the entire collection of custom coins we have created at Signature Coins. In fact, it barely scrapes the surface. We work alongside our clients and breath life, or death, into their ideas, creating one-of-a-kind artwork and distinctive products that are sure to capture the imaginations, and send chills down the spine, of anyone who lays their hands on them. Send us your ideas and see what we can do!
